Meet our founder

Joe Daniels

Joe Daniels is a highly accomplished and dynamic engineering executive with close to 20 years of experience across the automotive, defense, and energy sectors. His leadership roles at industry giants and ground breakers such as Nissan, Fuse Integration, Moxion Power, and Proterra (Volvo) have allowed him to lead and scale engineering teams from early-stage startups to organizations with hundreds of employees. With expertise in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and advanced defense technologies, Joe has successfully guided cross-functional teams through the full product lifecycle—from concept to market launch. He has a proven track record of launching complex technologies, managing multimillion-dollar budgets, and delivering innovative solutions in both commercial and government sectors. As the founder of J3 Engineering, Joe combines his deep technical knowledge and strategic leadership to offer tailored consulting, research, and engineering services that drive growth, innovation, and proper engineering processes to provide his customers a solid foundation to scale.

Josh Payne

Josh Payne is a distinguished leader in hardware engineering, with a focus on electrification and battery technology. His career spans key roles at Ovonic Battery Company, LG Chem Power, General Motors, American Battery Solutions, and Moxion Power, among others. Josh is one of a small group of people that understands both start-up and large tier1/OEM Engineering and how to succeed at both. Known for his technical expertise and leadership, he holds numerous patents in batteries, electrification, processes, and design, and has led many teams of 20 to 50 engineers, on up to over 100.

JC Estoup

JC has two decades of combined engineering and leadership experience. Over the course of his career, he has launched more than 10 vehicles at mass-production volumes, contributing to over 6 million vehicles currently on the road. He also led the design and engineering of Moxion Power’s first mass-production product, a mobile rechargeable energy storage unit.

JC is passionate about developing and launching competitive, innovative products in the electric vehicle space. He has a strong track record of delivering high-quality products and solutions within the automotive, energy storage, and AI sectors through a focus on innovation and execution. He drives the development of next-generation products while balancing tradeoffs among performance, cost, quality, and time to market.

JC brings deep expertise in leadership, engineering, manufacturing, and AIAG standards, along with a strong interest in complex multi-physics systems and emerging technologies. He is also quadrilingual.
